Travel update

  • Got my flights to Seattle re-organised to fit my new itinerary – because i paid in AUD and not USD, this was complicated and involved multiple calls to the US .. :(
  • Booked more accommodation – Hotel Max in Seattle is where I’ll be for Christmas; it looks pretty nice! :)
  • Still trying to work out where I want to stay on the drive up Highway 1 (“Big Sur”) – at this stage, I’m thinking of staying in Cambria
  • Where do I get a Christmas hamper in San Francisco? I’ll be getting in to Seattle very late on Christmas Eve, so I figure bringing some nice food and wine with me is a smart idea (better than starving, at any rate..)

Rent

“Five hundred, twenty-five thousand, six hundred minutes … how do you measure a year?”

Went to see an amateur production of Rent last night. Awesome performances by Mimi, Joanne, Maureen (the duet between Joanne and Maureen was especially brilliant .. damn they can sing), Angel (terrible singing but very well acted), Roger and Collins.

Not so wonderful was Mark .. just couldn’t quite pull off the vocals, and was lacking the presence the role ought to have. Also, the sound was terrible. Microphones dropping out, audible static, poor audio balance and so on made it hard to pick up some of the songs.

On the balance though – they obviously didn’t have a huge budget, and did a great job with what they had. A great night out! :-)

Another month gone

So I’ve gone and forgotten to update this .. plenty of stuff has happened recently:

  • Had random problems with American Airlines and convincing them to hit up my credit card for flights I want to take – apparently there’s problems charging an Australian CC in USD (this shouldn’t be so hard…)
  • Acquired a new toy – a Nikon D60 DSLR with matching lens. Takes such pretty pictures!
  • Went to a 30th party for a guy at work with a friend who was in town … was re-united with my good friend Gin and his cousin Tonic… ;-)
  • Paid a flying visit to BNE to catch up with old friends, finish Internet-ing up my parents place and go to a wedding. The wedding went very well, save the food at the reception – I’m yet to go to one where the kitchen is aware that I’m vegetarian prior to my sitting down – but oh well. Otherwise a brilliant trip .. just wish there were more hours in the day!
  • Found out my flights with V Australia at the end of the year have been cancelled, on account of their not having (and not getting) planes yet .. whoops. I’ve been re-booked on Qantas at their expense, so – apart from my being annoyed at missing out on the inaugural flight – I’m very happy with how it’s panned out. :-D
  • Also found out that the friends who I’d intended to visit in Los Angeles for Christmas aren’t going to be there .. cue some jiggery-pokery with the intended itinerary, as I have no real desire to spend any length of time there if I’m not visiting people.
  • Scored an awesome deal on a hotel in San Francisco tonight – Hotel Palomar. Supposedly quite swish, and it’s certainly in a nice spot. AUD$138 per night!

That’s about it. Work is going well, and more travel planning to come.
